Forbes India Top 100 Rich List 2021

The 100 Richest Indians in 2021 saw their cumulative wealth increase to $775 billion, adding $257 billion—a 50 percent gain—from 2020. This comes at a time when the country is recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic which led the benchmark BSE Sensex to rise 52 percent in the year. Complementing this year of growth, more than 80 percent of members in the list saw an increase in their fortunes, with 61 billionaires adding $1 billion or more to their wealth.

With a net worth of $92.7 billion, owner and chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani tops the list, adding $4 billion to his wealth from 2020. Next on the list is Gautam Adani with a net worth of $74.8 billion, who is also the top gainer on the list. Adani added $49.5 billion to his wealth, a near 200% increase compared to 2020. Adani is responsible for almost a fifth of the increase in the wealth of India’s 100 richest this year. Also in the top 10 are Shiv Nadar, with a net worth of $31 billion, followed by Radhakishan Damani with a net worth of $29.4 billion, both retaining their third and fourth rank on the list, respectively. Damani nearly doubled his wealth in 2021. Cyrus Poonawalla, the founder of Serum Institute of India, moved up a rank, making his way into the top five with a net worth of $19 billion. Savitri Jindal broke into the top 10 clubs for the first time with a net worth of $18 billion, up from $6.6 billion year ago.
