Nikhat Zareen won gold medal in World Boxing Championship
Nikhat Zareen, India’s new boxing superstar won the gold medal at the 52-kg World Boxing Championships tournament in Istanbul. She defeated Thailand’s Jutames Jitpong 5-0 and won the match with a unanimous decision. With this, Zareen has become the only woman boxer after Mary Kom to have achieved this feat. She is also the fifth Indian woman boxer to win the gold medal and world championship.
Eintracht Frankfurt Wins UEFA Europa League 2021-22 Title
Eintracht Frankfurt pipped Rangers 5-4 on penalties in Sevilla, Spain to win the UEFA Europa League 2021-22 final and claim their first European trophy. The win also helped Frankfurt to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, Both clubs were looking to win a second European title in their history, Rangers after clinching the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972 and Frankfurt after they lifted the UEFA Cup 42 years ago.
BSE appoints SS Mundra as Chairman
BSE Limited announced that it has approved the appointment of SS Mundra, Public Interest Director as the Chairman of the board of directors of the company. Mundra will replace Justice Vikramajit Sen who is the current chairman. Mundra was appointed as Public Interest Director at BSE in January 2018. He retired as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on 30th July 2017 after completing a stint of three years. Prior to that, the last position held by him was as Chairman and Managing Director of Bank of Baroda from where he superannuated in July 2014.
India wins maiden Thomas Cup title, beats Indonesia 3-0 in finals
India created history by winning the iconic badminton championship Thomas Cup against Indonesia. It won three straight matches, two men’s singles and a men’s doubles match to seal the championship. With this win, India has become the sixth country to win the title. India's Kidambi Srikanth defeated Indonesia's Leonardus Jonatan Christie in Thomas Cup Final 2022 held in Bangkok.

South Korea joined NATO's cyber defense group on May 5, becoming the first Asian country to join in North Atlantic Treaty Organization Cooperative Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence. South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) is joined as a contributing participant in the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence.
2nd India-Nordic Summit
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the 2nd India-Nordic Summit along with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark, Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir of Iceland, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson of Sweden and Prime Minister Sanna Marin of Finland. The Summit provided an opportunity to review the progress of the India-Nordic relations since the 1st India-Nordic Summit, which was held in 2018 in Stockholm. Discussions were held on multilateral cooperation in post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, sustainable development, innovation, digitalization, and green and clean growth. Discussions were also held on cooperation in the maritime sector with a focus on sustainable ocean management. Prime Minister invited Nordic companies for investing in the Blue Economy sector, especially in India’s Sagarmala project. India’s partnership with the Nordic region in the Arctic Region was discussed. Prime Minister noted that India’s Arctic Policy provides a good framework for the expansion of India-Nordic cooperation in the Arctic region.

Lieutenant General Baggavalli Somashekar Raju is appointed as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff and will assume his office on 01 May 2022. An alumnus of Sainik School Bijapur and National Defence Academy, he was commissioned in the JAT Regiment on 15th December 1984. He commanded his Battalion during OP PARAKRAM in the Western Theatre and in Jammu & Kashmir. He also holds the distinction of commanding the Uri brigade along the Line of Control, a Counter Insurgency Force, and the Chinar Corps in the Kashmir Valley. The General Officer also served as the Commandant, of the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan. During his illustrious career spanning 38 years, he has tenanted many important regimental, staff, and instructional appointments in the Army Head Quarters and in field formations to include, including Colonel Military Secretary Legal in Military Secretary branch, Brigadier General Staff of the operationally active White Knight Corps, Deputy Director General Military Operations & Director General Staff Duties. Prior to taking over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, the General Officer was tenanting the appointment of Director General Military Operations during the standoff on the LAC.

Cabinet approves construction of 540 Megawatt Kwar Hydro Electric project
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the investment of Rs.4526.12 crore for 540 Megawatt (MW) Kwar Hydro Electric Project located on river Chenab, in Kishtwar district of Union Territory of Jammy and Kashmir. The project will be implemented by M/s. Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (M/s. CVPPL) a joint venture company between NHPC and JKSPDC with equity contribution of 51% and 49% respectively on 27.04.2022.

Crew of first private flight to ISS head back to Earth
The crew of the first fully private mission to the International Space Station departed the orbiting laboratory on Monday to head back to Earth. The three businessmen and a former NASA astronaut had spent more than two weeks on the station on a history-making mission organized by startup company Axiom Space. The SpaceX capsule was undocked from the ISS at 0110 GMT for the return trip and was scheduled to land in the ocean off the coast of Florida at around 1:00 pm local time (1700 GMT). The four men - three of whom paid tens of millions of dollars for the rare chance to take part in the mission - were originally scheduled to spend only eight days on the space station.
