Tata Sons on February 14 appointed Ilker Ayci, who was until recently the chairman of Turkish Airlines, as CEO & MD of Air India. Fifty-one-year old Ayci is a 1994 alumni of Bilkent University’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration. After a research stay on political science at the Leeds University in the UK in 1995, he completed an International Relations Master’s programme at the Marmara University in Istanbul in 1997.

The World Book (WB) of Records United Kingdom (UK) officially certified India's Atal Tunnel as the World's Longest Highway Tunnel above 10,000 feet (3048 Meters) from the Mean Sea Level (MSL). World Book of Records UK, is an organisation that catalogs and verifies extraordinary records across the world with authentic certification. The Nation’s pride, the visionary project of Atal Tunnel was dedicated to the Nation by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on October 03, 2020. The 9.02 km long, strategically significant, Atal Tunnel, that runs under the ‘Rohtang Pass’ was constructed on the Manali - Leh Highway under the challenging conditions of freezing temperatures in extremely difficult terrain. Prior to the construction of the tunnel, the highway remained closed during the winter season for six months, isolating Lahaul & Spiti from the mainland. Construction of this tunnel has reduced the distance on Manali - Sarchu road by 46 km and travel time by four to five hours, providing all-weather connectivity on the Manali - Leh axis.

JNU Appoints Pune University Professor Santishree Pandit as its First Woman Vice-Chancellor
Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has been appointed as the first woman Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Pandit who is currently a political science professor at Savitribai Phule University in Maharashtra was appointed the top post. The 59-year-old Pandit is also an alumna of JNU where she pursued her MPhil as well as Ph.D. in International Relations. Pandit began her teaching career at Goa University in 1988 and moved to Pune University in 1993. She has held an administrative position in various academic bodies. She has also been a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and the Visitor's nominee to central universities. In her career, she has guided 29 PhDs.
Construct Bridge Over Mahakali River
India and Nepal, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the cons¬truction of a motorable bridge over the Mahakali River connecting Dharchula (India) with Dharchula (Nepal), under Indian grant assistance. India will bear all the costs of constructing the bridge and the preparation of a detailed project report for the bridge has already been completed and the construction work of the bridge will start soon and will be completed within three years. The project will improve cross-border connectivity between Nepal's Sudur Paschim province and India's Uttarakhand across the Mahakali river where close people-to-people links exist between communities on both sides of the border.

Prof Dinesh Prasad Saklani is the new NCERT director
The Central government has appointed Dinesh Prasad Saklani as director of NCERT for a period of five years or till he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is the earliest. Saklani is a professor with the department of history, ancient Indian history, culture and archaeology at HNB Garhwal University, Uttarakhand. He is also the director of the Chauras Campus of the university.

Cochin Shipyard delivers three Floating Border Out-Post vessels to BSF
Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), under the Ministry of Ports, Ships and Waterways, has successfully delivered the second lot of three Floating Border Out-Post (FBOPs) vessels to the Border Security Force. CSL has got orders for building nine such FBOPs to protect Nation’s water borders. Three more vessels are likely to be delivered in the coming months.

Indonesia names new capital that will replace Jakarta
Indonesia has announced that its new capital will be called Nusantara, meaning "archipelago" in Javanese. It came as parliament approved a bill to relocate the capital from Jakarta, which is rapidly sinking. The idea of building a new capital 1,300km (800 miles) away on the island of Borneo was first proposed in 2019. Jakarta has become crowded, polluted and is sinking at an alarming rate due to the over-extraction of groundwater. Home to more than 10 million people, it sits on swampy land on the large island of Java.

Pune-based Repos Energy run by Aditi Bhosale Walunj and Chetan Walunj won National Startup Award 2021 in the Energy distribution category. Repos was one among the 150 startups that presented their recommendations at the virtual gathering that had Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal in attendance. Repos, backed by former chairman of Tata Sons Ratan Tata, was recognized by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for its initiation of door-to-door delivery of fuel. The startup is establishing a one-stop destination to stimulate the creation and growth of energy on a doorstep-delivery business model. “By bringing the entire petrol pump on wheels, they have achieved unparalleled speed in creating new infrastructure for energy distribution,” the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement.

He joined VSSC in 1985 and was a team leader for the Integration of PSLV during the early phases.

The IMF has announced that French economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas will be succeeding Gita Gopinath as the fund’s chief economist. In December 2021, Gopinath, who has served the IMF for three years, was promoted to IMF’s First Deputy Managing Director. Gourinchas will begin his part-time charge from January 24 before assuming a full role from April 1.
